Date Sold 10/9/2016 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Theatrical Promotional Movie Brochures (measuring 10" x 12" [25 x 30 cm] and 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]); 2 pages each) (Learn More) The World's Greatest Sinner, the 1962 Timothy Carey surrealist rock and roll (rock 'n' roll) religious melodrama (about a bored insurance salesman who gets the revelation that he is "God", and he changes his name to God and starts a rock 'n' roll band, and develops a huge following, while battling his internal demons) starring Timothy Carey, Gil Barreto, Betty Rowland, James Farley, Gail Griffin, Tyde Rule, and Paul Frees (as the narrator). There are many who considered this movie a masterpiece, both when it was first released, and all the way through to the present day. It has elements of Elia Kazan's "A Face in the Crowd", and it is filmed similarly to French New Wave films. Director/screenwriter/star Timothy Carey had virtually no budget whatsoever, and unfortunately, it shows. The editing is poor, with many uneven cuts, and the sound quality is poor. In spite of these defects, the movie has many great fans, including the late John Cassavetes, who said it was like the works of Sergei Eisenstein! The film score was written by Frank Zappa, but not performed by him, and many people thought it was wonderful and wished that Zappa had done more work along that line. Certainly, this movie was decades ahead of its time. We assume it was given a very limited release (we know it played 18 weeks at the Los Angeles Empire Arts Theater, but we don't know if it played anywhere else), and we have never seen any poster material from it, only two promo brochures! Of course, Timothy Carey is best remembered today for his roles in a couple of Stanley Kubrick's movies, "Paths of Glory" and "The Killing", and if you have ever seen him in a movie, you surely will remember him! Important Added Info: Note that these two promo brochures (which were likely sent to theaters trying to get them to book this movie) are the only two promotional items we have ever seen from this forgotten "masterpiece".
