An Original 1947 (from the first release of this movie in Germany) Vintage German Film Program (measures 5" x 10 1/2" [13 x 27 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More)

Two Years Before the Mast, the 1946 John Farrow high seas sailor swashbuckling pirate adventure thriller ("The world famous novel on the screen at last!"; "Based on the novel by Richard Henry Dana Jr."; about a man who is shanghaied onto a ship run by a sadistic captain; based on the true story which was turned into a novel by Richard Henry Dana, the man who was shanghaied) starring Alan Ladd, Brian Donlevy (as Richard Henry Dana), William Bendix, Barry Fitzgerald, Howard da Silva, Esther Fernandez, Albert Dekker, Luis Van Rooten, and Darryl Hickman. Note that Esther Fernandez was a popular Mexican actress who had never appeared in an American movie, and could barely speak English. But she was signed to appear in this movie (because they needed a pretty woman in a cast of all rough men), and she made this sole appearance, and then returned to Mexico. However, when this movie was released in an English/Spanish version for Spanish speaking audiences, Fernandez was bumped up to second billing under Alan Ladd! This was likely done to please Latin American audiences who were a major demographic during World War II.

Important Added Info: Note that this program is from a special series of showings of American movies in the "American Zone" of West Germany beginning in 1945, and running for the next three years or so. Each of these special programs have "Published with approval of Military Government" printed on the back. In 1946, West Germany began having regular showings of American movies, and the same movies that were shown in these special showings between 1945 and 1948 were again shown beginning in 1946, so there would be two different programs for each of these movies, one like this, and one "regular" program issued later. Also note that we have provided an image of all the pages of this 6-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and the interior three pages together). This way, you see the entire program, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended).

Condition: very good.
