An Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 17 1/4" x 22 1/4" [44 x 57 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Bullets or Ballots, the 1936 William Keighley political crime thriller starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Blondell, Barton MacLane, Humphrey Bogart, Frank McHugh, Joseph King, Richard Purcell, George E. Stone, Joseph Crehan, and Henry O'Neill. Note that this movie was made directly after Humphrey Bogart's first major hit, "The Petrified Forest", but Warner Bros. still did not believe in him (or possibly the advertising was prepared prior to the release of The Petrified Forest). He was billed a dismal fourth, and Edward G. Robinson was billed large above the title, and Joan Blondell was billed large below the title, but Bogart was billed in small letters after Barton MacLane! In addition, Bogart only appears on a few of the posters, because the main thrust of the ad campaign was pushing Edward G. Robinson! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a great trade ad taken out of an issue of Kinematograph Weekly English trade magazine (we have 23 of them in this set of auctions, all from Humphrey Bogart movies). Studios would run these elaborate ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This trade ad was removed from a 1936 issue of this magazine, and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of this trade ad has text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured the back because the primary interest to bidders is the great ad we have pictured. Note finally that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The ad was removed from a magazine (see above). It was the centerfold of the magazine so the pages are on a single sheet, and there are staple holes at the spine (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
