Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restored at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

The poster had paper loss at the top and middle crossfolds and also small areas of paper loss down the vertical foldline between those two crossfolds and many small tears and tiny areas of paper loss across the top two foldlines. There were two light water stains near the center of the poster in Rogers' "punching" arm. Other than the above defects, the poster had some wear on the other foldlines pinholes in the corners and some border defects. This poster was not linenbacked all that well, as you can see signs of the restoration, even from a distance away, and the restorer did not remove or paint over the light water stains in Rogers' arm. If I owned this poster, I would either have it re-backed, or have a restorer try to do additional touch up to the above defects without re-backing the poster. In any event, please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects, or are willing to pay to have the poster re-restored! Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster.
