An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #3 (A Call to Arms) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) The Son of Democracy, the 1918 Benjamin Chapin silent Civil War historical political biographical melodrama ("A series of dramatic film stories of America in the making"; "Written, directed, and produced by Benjamin Chapin") starring Benjamin Chapin (as Abraham Lincoln). Note that this was one of a series of 10 shorts that were entirely created by Benjamin Chapin, who starred as Abraham Lincoln in all of them. They were all released under the umbrella title of "The Son of Democracy", with each having a specific name for that short, kind of like a serial, but this was not a serial in the traditional sense, and was ten short films, each intended to stand independently, but each following the other. The ten parts are: Episode 1 "My Mother", Episode 2 "My Father", Episode 3 "A Call to Arms", Episode 4 "My First Jury", Episode 5 "Tender Memories", Episode 6 "A President's Answer", Episode 7 "His Native State", Episode 8 "Down the River", Episode 9 "The Slave Auction", Episode 10 "Under the Stars". Normally, we would list these as separate entries, but since they are surely all incredibly rare, we are listing them under the umbrella title. Finally, note that Benjamin Chapin was one of the actors who solely made a living impersonating Lincoln, and while he only appeared in a few other movies where he played Lincoln, he also made stage show appearances as Lincoln as well. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two glass slides from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this one-sheet! Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had separation on parts of most folds and it was folded in half an extra time. It had tiny tears and tiny paper loss on parts of several folds and pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
