Date Sold 6/30/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded World War II Poster (measures 21" x 27" [53 x 69 cm]) (Learn More) Wanted for Victory, the 1942 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster ("Waste paper old rags scrap metals old rubber"; "Get in the scrap"; "Sell to a collector or give to a charity") encouraging people to donate or sell their scraps for the war effort, and featuring an image of a family going through their scraps! Note that it is common knowledge that there were massive shortages of many materials during World War II, and that included paper, which caused many companies that relied on paper (like newspapers and magazines, but also movie studios, because of their need for posters) to cut back on how much paper they used. This poster is confirmation that people were recycling old paper in 1942, early in the U.S.'s involvement in the war, and that probably included lots of great old movie posters, which helps explain their great rarity. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded and someone mounted it onto a very thin linen, with no excess. Either before or after it was backed, it acquired many creases and stains around the edges and also many creases, scuffs, and smudges throughout (see our image). Any talented restorer could remove this poster from the old linen and properly re-back it, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
