An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Womanhandled, the 1925 Gregory La Cava silent romantic screwball comedy ("[The Answer to 'Manhandled']"; "From the Saturday Evening Post story by Arthur Stringer"; a wacky story of a society playboy who meets a girl and falls in love, but she sees him as "soft", and she wants a real man like there are in the West, so he heads to a ranch, but finds that all the cowboys there have gone to Hollywood, and the only people left at the ranch are dudes like himself; so he hires some locals to pose as cowboys, but his girlfriend isn't fooled, but when he rescues her from a cattle stampede, she realizes he is a "real man"!) starring Richard Dix, Esther Ralston, Edmund Breese, Cora Williams, Olive Tell, and Margaret Morris. Note that the term "womanhandled" in the title refers to a man who was raised by women, and is not "manly". It seems to have completely vanished from modern vocabulary! Also note that the movie is a loose parody of a Gloria Swanson movie made the year before called "Manhandled", and the advertising for this movie included the tagline "The Answer to 'MANHANDLED'".

Important Added Info: Note that this still (and a number of others we are currently auctioning) has a most unusual provenance. Our consignor's father worked at Paramount Studios between 1925 and 1927, and he was given a number of deluxe stills (and a few regular ones) from then-current films, and he kept them all the years since, and now they have been consigned to us! We put three great portraits from this collection (portraits of Louise Brooks, W.C. Fields, and Clara Bow) in our September Major Auction, and now we have many of the other individual stills in this auction of single stills. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire these extremely rare stills (and other than some of them measuring under 8x10, which likely occurred prior to them being distributed, they are in quite nice condition, especially considering their age). Note that this still measures 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

Condition: good to very good. There are scuff marks in the center of the top border and one enters Dix's forehead and eye, but it is fairly faint. Please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this still.
