A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 31 3/4" [30 x 81 cm]) (Learn More)

Talking Movie Star, the late 1920s or early 1930s uncut school notebook notepad covers featuring artwork of films stars, including: Irene Delroy, Janey Gaynor, Marian Nixon, Gary Cooper, Norma Shearer, and Fay Wray. These covers were printed on notepads that were sold commercially to students and adults, and they sold very large quantities of them!
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this special poster! It is an uncut sheet of four notepad covers. Likely it is a proof that was created prior to making the notepads, which were sold commercially. It surely dates from the very late 1920s or the very early 1930s. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had faint water staining in the top left of the Cooper cover, in the area outside the oval. There were some creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, with tears in the middle of the left border and the left and of the top and bottom borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
