A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; 250 pages) (Learn More) Flight, the 1929 Frank Capra (billed as "Frank R. Capra") United States Marine Corps military airplane aviation romantic love triangle adventure thriller ("The supreme all-talking drama of the air"; "made with the full co-operation of the United States Marine Corps"; a virtual mini-epic, with a college football star who blows the big game by running the wrong way and scoring a touchdown for the other team!; he joins the Marine Flying Corps, where, as luck would have it, his main rival is someone who witnessed the football game, and constantly taunts him about it; he also has a kindly flight instructor who takes a liking to him, but the young man crashes a plane and his hands are burned, so he can't fly, but the instructor takes him along to the war in Nicaragua as a mechanic; as luck would have it, both he and the flight instructor fall in love with the same beautiful woman, but the instructor doesn't know it, and feels betrayed when he learns the younger man has "stolen" his girl; there is a climactic air rescue, where the young man must fly a plane even though he is not qualified, and at the end of the movie, he has become a flight instructor himself, and he has won the girl!) starring Jack Holt, Ralph Graves, Lila Lee, Alan Roscoe, Walter Brennan, and Eddy Chandler. Note that the football incident that starts the movie was based on the real life exploit of Roy Riegels, later branded "Wrong Way Riegels", and Capra used actual footage of his wrong run in the movie. In addition, Capra had the cooperation of the Marine Corps, and they let him film actual Marine Corps planes for the footage in the movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is the Grosset & Dunlap photoplay edition of this novel in its original dust jacket. This book has the original dust jacket. Here are more details about these books: Grosset & Dunlap was a publisher that made a deal with all the studios in the 1910s to publish "movie edition" hardcovers of novels that were currently adapted into movies (there were also some by other publishers, but Grosset & Dunlap printed the lion's share of these). They would republish the original novel as the movie came out (or soon after), and they would put a dust jacket on the book that showed the stars of the movie, and they would usually include several pages of images from the movie scattered in the book. These books were incredibly popular in the 1920s and 1930s, and they are quite collectible, especially if they still have the original dust jacket! Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Because we know that the dust jacket is an important part of the value of this book, we also pictured the entire dust jacket opened up. Between that image and our other images, you should be able to get a good sense of the overall condition of this book. Condition: very good. The dust jacket is in a protective sleeve.
