An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Susan and God (released in other English-speaking countries as "The Gay Mrs. Trexel"), the 1940 George Cukor religious comedy melodrama ("The gay comedy of high society that ran 8 months on Broadway!"; "'Sit down! I loved you once... But now you're just a bum sport!'"; "The gay stage hit of high society!"; based on the play by Rachel Crothers; about a woman with a husband and small child who has a religious awakening, and decides to drastically change her life, and she is able to convince her husband to change with her, thanks to the intervention of their teenage daughter) starring Joan Crawford (in the title role as Susan), Fredric March, Ruth Hussey, John Carroll, Rita Hayworth (fifth billed and on the verge of major stardom!), Nigel Bruce, Bruce Cabot, Rita Quigley, Rose Hobart, Constance Collier, and Susan Peters (uncredited in her first movie role!) We have been told by an expert that Columbia and MGM had a number of their color stills printed in Great Britain in the late 1950s and the early 1960s (the years vary between the two studios), no doubt because the English color printing was better than the U.S. color printing at this time. However, they were printed in Great Britain to be used in the U.S. (we have heard from many collectors who saw these color stills in U.S. theaters at the time these movies were released, but we have not heard from any English collectors who saw them used in England at that time). In the late 1960s and 1970s some studios started printing color stills like these in Italy, surely for the same reason (because Italian printers had better color printing during those years). But those stills printed in Italy were for use in the U.S., as these stills printed in Great Britain were for use in the U.S. Condition: very good. There is rippling at bottom center, caused by the snipe glued to the back of that area. Learn More about condition grades
