An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More)

Bunnies and Bonnets, the 1933 Manny Gould & Ben Harrison animated animation cartoon comedy short ("Laughs from start to finish!"; produced by Charles Mintz) starring Krazy Kat. Krazy Kat was an American newspaper comic strip by cartoonist George Herriman, which ran from 1913 to 1944. It first appeared in the New York Evening Journal, whose owner, William Randolph Hearst, was a major booster for the strip throughout its run. Set in a dreamlike portrayal of Herriman's vacation home of Coconino County, Arizona, Krazy Kat's mixture of offbeat surrealism, innocent playfulness and poetic, idiosyncratic language has made it a favorite of comics aficionados and art critics for more than 80 years. The strip was adapted into animated cartoons many times from 1916 to 1940 (Columbia distributed them from 1929 to 1939). Note that Columbia made "stock" posters for their Krazy Kat cartoons (we know of one from 1931 and one from 1936), but they also made specific one-sheets for individual Krazy Kat cartoons. However, we have only ever auctioned two of those, so they surely are incredibly rare, and it may be that they only made them for some of the cartoons.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that, as mentioned above, we have only previously auctioned one other one-sheet from a specific Krazy Kat cartoon, and that was 13 years ago! This poster is surely extremely rare, and it is easy to understand why, because surely very few theaters ordered posters for specific cartoons they were showing! Also note that this one-sheet may have been trimmed and it measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm] (see below).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2", so either it had added blank area at the top of the poster that was trimmed off, or it measured this size to begin with. We have never seen another example of this poster, so we can't say either way, but it does not look like it has been trimmed. The poster had some paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, with a much lesser amount on the horizontal folds. It had tiny paper loss in the chin of the bird sitting on the lady's head. It had a diagonal tear running from the giraffe's leg to his other shoe. It had pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really expertly backed by a very talented professional. I would think the vast majority of people would have no idea that it had the above defects, and it will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
