An Original Vintage Theatrical 10" x 15 3/4" [25 x 40 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) A Woman Rebels, the 1936 Mark Sandrich feminist romantic melodrama (based on a novel by Netta Syrett; set in Victorian England, about a woman who is an early feminist, and who lives alone, is outspoken, and has a job) starring Katharine Hepburn, Herbert Marshall, Elizabeth Allan, Donald Crisp, Doris Dudley, David Manners, and Van Heflin (eighth billed in his first movie!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the still shows a great candid image of director Mark Sandrich rehearsing Katharine Hepburn and Elizabeth Allan underneath the boom microphone attached to the camera. You can see all of the cameramen and crewmembers in the left side, and the director and two stars in the right side. Also note that we have only twice before ever auctioned any of these "double stills"! It consists of two 8" x 10" stills that show the left half and the right half of the exact same image, and the in between blank borders were trimmed off and the stills were attached on the back with a cloth tape, thus creating a 10" x 15 3/4" double still! Note that there is a stamp on the back from RKO, that also indicates that the photo is by Alex Kahle. Also note that a paper snipe was glued to the back of the left still, and then folded over to the front. The previous two double stills we were consigned were from a different consignor, and that was 9 years ago, and we have no others. These are surely incredibly rare! Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Condition: good. The left of the still on the right has changed color (due to the tape from the back), and that discoloration in the center is very noticeable. There is also a small stain in the top right of the left still (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
