Date Sold 5/29/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 7 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) El Rey De Los Gitanos (literally translates to "King of the Gypsies"), the 1933 Frank R. Strayer musical romantic love triangle Spanish royalty melodrama (about a Spanish princess who is bored, so she disguises herself and visits a gypsy camp, where she falls in love with their "king", but her fiance wants her back; interestingly, at the end of the movie, she is in love with the gypsy king, but he tells her that they have no future together, and he leaves!) starring Jose Mojica, Rosita Moreno, Julio Villarreal, Romualdo Tirado, Ada Lozano. Note that this is a very interesting movie. Fox made it in 1933 on location in Spain, and it was filmed in Spanish (and perhaps it was also filmed in English), and it opened in Spain in 1933, and a few days later in Los Angeles. Why do we say "perhaps" about being filmed in English? Because the only movie paper of any kind we have ever seen from this movie are seven lobby cards, and all the lobby cards say "Toda En Espanol", and are entirely in Spanish, including the title. That would seem to indicate that there would have also been an English language version (perhaps as "King of the Gypsies", and we know that Rosita Moreno could have done her part in English, because she alternated between English language and Spanish movies), but without ever seeing one bit of paper from it, we can't say for sure. If anyone knows more about this movie or posters from it, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when we auction incomplete sets of cards, we normally separate the title card from the rest of the cards. But because we have NEVER had any item from this movie before, we are leaving these cards together, so that the new owner may own everything that survives from this title! Condition: good to very good. All of the cards have varying amounts of pinholes, stains, and smudges around the edges, and a few smudges, stains, and scuffs scattered in the image. They range in condition from "good" to "good to very good". Please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on these cards. Learn More about condition grades
