A Paperbacked Special Poster (measures 39 1/4" x 55 1/4" [100 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Superieur et Subalterne (literally translates to "Superior and Subordinate"), the 1913 Vitagraph silent romantic love triangle police comedy short (about a policeman who competes with his superior officer for the same woman). Note that this poster has the title in French ("Superieur et Subalterne"), German ("Macky und Sein Vorgesetzter", Macky and His Supervisor) and Italian ("Superiore e Subalterno", which is the same as the French title) but we are uncertain what the English title was (it would seem certain that this was an English language short, but we could not find further information about it). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Harry Bedos Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss in the bottom left corner that deleted all but the final "H" of the word "THE VITAGRAPH" and also a tiny bit of the border around the company name (see our image). The poster had also darkened (more so around the edges), and there were some creases and scuffs on parts of the folds, with a few faint stains scattered in the poster, and some small tears in the borders. Someone did a nice job paperbacking the poster. They did no restoration to the darkening, smudges, and small stains, but the paper backing allowed them to replace the missing bottom left corner, and also mend the tears in the borders. The replacement paper is really not very noticeable at all, and the poster will display really well on the new owner's wall. Learn More about condition grades
