A Linenbacked East German Art Exhibition Poster (measures 32" x 45" [81 x 114 cm]) (Learn More) Restaurierte Kunstwerke in der DDR (literally translates to "Restored Works of Art in the GDR"), the 1980 East German poster promoting an art exhibition which took place from April to July at the Altes Museum in Berlin, East Germany. Note that this poster features an Otto Kummert and Ilona Ripke design of a restored painting of a woman Artist: Otto Kummert & Ilona Ripke Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been mounted onto a "Chartex"-like material (we are not 100% certain it is Chartex, but if not, it is something very similar. Chartex is a backing paper that is a linen-like paper, similar to the material you line drawers with. It serves its function well in that the poster is preserved, which is why many restorers other than movie poster restorers use it, but it is very difficult to impossible to remove from the back of the poster. SO DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT LIKELY CAN'T BE REMOVED FROM ITS BACKING, AND WILL NEED TO BE KEPT AS IT IS (although it is not harming the poster, and it enables it to be displayed). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had creases, scuffs, pinholes, and some tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster backed onto a thin Chartex-like material (see above), and no restoration was performed. There is excess at the top and bottom, but none on the sides (see our image).
