5m0020 LOT OF 36 WOMAN DISPUTED 8X10 STILLS 1928 assistant director Humberstone's personal candids!

a lot of 36 8x10 stills from The Woman Disputed. Many of these stills have a snipe on the back and/or a photographer credit for John Miehle. The two stills that show John Gilbert with Humberstone are both deluxe photos. Of course, The Woman Disputed is the 1928 Henry King & Sam Taylor World War I (WWI) romantic love triangle melodrama (about an Austrian officer who is best friends with a Russian officer before the war, and together they help rescue a prostitute and cause her to reform, but when she declares her love for the Austrian, the Russian is very angry, and then war breaks out, and each man returns to their soldiers, and of course, it works out that the woman can save many Austrian soldiers by being "intimate" with the Russian, and she does so, and her Austrian lover only forgives her when the 10,000 men she saved kneel at her feet in thanks) starring Norma Talmadge (in the title role as Mary Ann Wagner), Gilbert Roland, Arnold Kent, Boris de Fas, and Michael Vavitch.

UPDATED 08/14/2020: Note that a knowledgeable collector pointed out that the top-right still in the first set shows Lloyd Hughes from the 1926 film Valencia (not Woman Disputed).

Note that this lot and 21 others we are currently auctioning, were owned by director H. Bruce Humberstone (nicknamed "Lucky"). He was born in 1901 and he started as a juvenile actor, and in his teens, he became a script clerk, and then worked his way up to being an assistant director to many top directors, including King Vidor. In 1932, he directed his first movie, and he worked steadily through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, directing one last movie in 1961. He directed both "A" and "B" movies, including some Tarzan, Charlie Chan, Cisco Kid, and more, and some of his movies have cult status, including "I Wake Up Screaming"! The 22 lots we are currently auctioning include a large number of stills (many of them key books and some include lots of incredible candids showing Humberstone) from movies that he either directed or was the assistant director on, and there are also some non-still items as well, including his personal phone/address book, which had the phone numbers of all the top stars of that time! This is a rare opportunity to obtain large numbers of guaranteed original stills and other items from Humberstone movies that were the property of the man himself!

Condition: fine. The stills were stored in a brown folder since they were created, and as noted above, these were director Humberstone's personal stills, and they are in remarkable condition! We still have the brown folder, but it has no printing connected to the movie on it (someone lightly wrote the movie's title in pencil on it), and it has darkened with age. If the high bidder on these photos wants it, they could have it, but we can't see that it has any value other than that it lends even more authenticity to the stills being from when the movie was first made. In addition, the folder measures 9 1/2" x 12", so sending it would make for a larger package. Unless the high bidder tells us that they want the folder sent, we will discard it.
