An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) International News was one of the series of newsreels released by Universal Studios from at least the early 1920s through 1967. The earliest newsreels we know of were called "International News", and Universal made one-sheets for those that had a series of headlines on them, but no image except for a cool border design (each newsreel ran from 7 to 10 minute newsreels that were released twice a week). Nearly all of them were filmed in black and white, and many were narrated by Ed Herlihy. In the 1930s and 1940s, they were called "Universal News Reel" and the posters for those also had headlines, and sometimes small images. In the 1950s and 1960s, they were called "Universal-International News". In 1976, the films' owner, MCA, made the unusual decision to turn over ownership of all of the newsreels to the National Archives. The decision effectively ended Universal's copyright claim, releasing the films into the public domain. Because royalties no longer have to be paid in order to broadcast them, Universal Newsreels have become a popular source of file footage in recent years. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Also note that the news items included in this 1929 newsreel were "Legions of Mussolini again attest his power. 100,000 Fascisti in tremendous ovation to Il Duce as Rome celebrates birthday", Jungle lions start training. Many thrills as Capt. Schneider re-opens his famous school in Berlin", "Shanghai imports latest fire fighting equipment. New York speed shown in the heart of the Orient in test run through the ancient, crowded city", "Liner Rams and sinks Freighter. Spanish steamer, with 1,000 aboard, plows into British ship in New York harbor", and "Thrills galore in first big rodeo of the year! Cowpunchers at Baker's Ranch, Cal., find bronchos and steers wild after long winter rest"! We know this is from 1929 because that is when the Spanish ship with 1,000 aboard, rammed into and sank another ship in the New York Harbor. Condition: good to very good. There are a few faint water stains at end of some foldlines and around some edges. There is approximately 1" of separation in the crossfolds and some minor separation at the ends of some foldlines.
