An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) Tarzan the Mighty, the 1928 Jack Nelson & Ray Taylor silent jungle action adventure serial ("An original serial produced by Universal Pictures Corp. by special arrangement with Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of 'Tarzan of the Apes' and 'The Cave Girl'") starring Frank Merrill (in the title role as Tarzan), Natalie Kingston, Al Ferguson, Bobby Nelson, Lorimer Johnston (as Lord Greystoke), and Charles Gemora (as both Taug the Gorilla and Toka the Gorilla!). Note that this is a "lost" film. Also note that this serial was originally intended to star Joe Bonomo, famous strongman, but he was injured working on a different movie, and he was replaced by Frank Merrill, who had a fantastic physique, but in this movie, he wore a very modest outfit that covered most of his torso! Also note that this movie was supposedly based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel "Jungle Tales of Tarzan", but it took great liberties with the plot. Tarzan finds a pair of brother and sister castaways on a jungle island, and he rescues them and brings them back to civilization. Finally, note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that someone at one point opened the glass slide and cut out the bottom area where the play dates would have been listed (likely the slide was re-used, and the play dates that were there were no longer valid, so they needed to be removed). It appears that the very bottom edge of the image was affected by this, but it would certainly have only been the background area. Otherwise, the slide is in quite nice condition! Glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: good. This glass slide has clear condition problems that causes it to be in less than "very good" condition. We do NOT describe those defects in words (UNLESS the defect is a crack in one or both panes of the glass, in which case we ALWAYS describe it elsewhere within the auction in words), and you can likely see some or all of them in the "large" and "super-sized" images we provide. If you are the sort who can accept a major defect, then you should bid on items in this condition grade, BUT PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THESE ITEMS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THEIR VERY CLEAR DEFECTS!
