An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

Super Minstrels, the circa 1920s poster advertising a "Super Minstrels" show starring Neil O'Brien and Bert Swor. Note that both of these performers were performing in minstrel shows (where singers would appear in blackface, as was well documented in the classic movie, "The Jolson Story") at the turn of the century, and appeared in shows with Al Jolson, Lew Dockstader, and all of the other most famous minstrel performers of that time. At the end of his career, Bert Swor joined the famous comedy team "Mack & Moran", replacing the original "Moran", and taking his name. Apparently this poster would likely date from around 1910, and appears to advertise a separate show that Neil O'Brien and Bert Swor did on their own, but we have been unable to find out more about this production. If anyone knows more about this poster or this show, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. There were many creases and small tears around the edges of the poster and some creases and faint brown water stains scattered throughout the poster. There was a long crease running through the man's eye and down into his cheek in the central image. There was a tiny circle of surface paper loss in the lower part of the man's jacket. Sometime many years ago, someone mounted this poster on a very thin linen. They did not do a very good job, because it is slightly bubbling up in several areas. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it re-backed by a talented professional. After proper backing, the poster would look great, and there would not be much paint restoration in the image.
