An Original Vintage Cinema Sourcebook Three Ring Binder (measures 11 1/2" x 11 1/2") (Learn More)

Cinema Sourcebook 1976, the 1976 three ring binder ("The definitive guide to films in theaters and on television") featuring information on all the films released in New York in 1976. Apparently, the idea behind this was that in those pre-Internet days, people would want to purchase this so that they could be aware of all the movies that were being released on a monthly basis (and it covered both theatrical movies and pay TV releases of those movies). They hoped that people would buy this binder and refer to it, so that they could plan what movies they would go to. Each page had a different movie on it, with credits, a plot synopsis, and some magazine reviews. As they say on the bottom of each page, "Cinema Sourcebook is a loose leaf film information service". You apparently bought the binder and then each month they sent you sheets with the next month's releases, which you would then insert in the end of the binder. Apparently, they drastically misjudged the audience for this (or they ran out of money), because on April 15, they sent a sad letter with the latest update saying "Cinema Sourcebook has been forced to suspend publication for financial reasons". They go on to say that if they reorganize the company, the recipient will receive a credit toward their new publication, but that "unfortunately, no claims for refunds can be processed at this time". However, on the bright side, they close the letter by saying "because of the relatively small press runs of Cinema Sourcebook, even this partial 1976 edition is expected to quickly become a valuable collector's item in and of itself". They are certainly right that examples of this sourcebook are incredibly rare, because we have never auctioned one before we were consigned one in 2018. The results of that auction will tell whether they were right about it becoming a valuable collector's item!
Important Added Info:

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Some of these items can ONLY be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. On some of them (for example if it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it.

Condition: very good to fine. The three ring binder and its contents are in nice condition, with very slight wear.
