An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Little Old New York, the 1940 Henry King New York City romantic inventor biography comedy ("Based upon play by Rida Johnson Young"; "Story by John Balderston"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; a highly fictionalized biography of Scottish inventor Robert Fulton, who arrived in New York City in 1807 to revolutionize travel between the boroughs by his newly invented steamboat, and everyone thinks he's crazy except for Alice Faye and her boyfriend Fred MacMurray) starring Alice Faye, Fred MacMurray, Richard Greene (as Robert Fulton), Brenda Joyce, Andy Devine, Henry Stephenson, and Fritz Feld. Note that there was a silent version of this movie in 1923 starring Marion Davies, but it had significant plot differences from this 1940 version. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this style A one-sheet, and that was 27 years ago, when it sold for $1,610! Also, note that this poster was one of the posters found in the legendary Royal Theatre Collection, in Canada over 40 years ago. This was the most amazing find of 1930s and 1940s posters ever, because not only were most in remarkable condition (most with paper that was as white as when it was printed), but also because it contained many of the best titles of those years, and there were many thousands of posters and lobby cards in all. Despite these having been sold over 40 years ago, many of these posters have rarely again been offered for sale or at auction. The poster offered here was purchased from the Royal Theatre Collection!
UPDATED 02/17/2020: Note that we have updated the Important Added Info section. Condition: very good. The poster has pinholes in the corners. It has faint yellow staining scattered across the bottom border, extending up in the center to MacMurray's credit. This odd faint yellow staining is something that was found in many of the posters from the legendary Royal Theatre collection from Canada (see above for more info), and this poster in fact originated from that collection (our consignor confirms that). I know from long experience that any talented restorer can remove that faint yellow staining either with or without backing the poster, and once that would be done, this poster will display incredibly, because other than the staining and the pinholes, the poster is in exceptional condition (which is also why I think it is from the Royal Theatre collection!).
