An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 24" x 32") (Learn More)

New Zealand Fights, the 1942 U.S. World War II (WWII) poster featuring A.T. Peel artwork of a helmeted Kiwi infantryman laying on a beach aiming a machine gun. Note that there is no printing information at the bottom of this poster, but the Museum of New Zealand says it was printed in the United States. It says that "this Second World War poster was part of a series of posters published by the New Zealand Legation in Washington D.C. in about 1942. It would have been intended mainly for an American audience, to keep New Zealand's efforts in the Pacific theatre of war to the fore. The image in this poster is possibly based on a soldier fighting in the North African desert during 1942. The poster appears to be a simple statement about war in that it is not doing any overt jobs such as fundraising or recruiting. However, it is deeply persuasive and manipulative - a New Zealander literally fights with a machine gun - implying that New Zealand proactively pulls its weight on the world stage. Posters such as this would have been intended to raise morale and to encourage people's war efforts in general."
Artist: A.T. Peel

Condition: very good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of both foldlines and some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
