An Original Vintage Theatrical Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Melody in Spring, the 1934 Norman Z. McLeod romantic love triangle musical ("Love is in the air!"; "The musical tonic for Spring Fever!") starring Lanny Ross (billed as "Introducing Lanny Ross"; "Radio's 'Showboat' Singing Sensation"), Charles Ruggles, Mary Boland, Ann Sothern (in her third credited movie role!), and George Meeker. Note that this is a forgotten movie, but its star, Lanny Ross, has a most unusual background. He was born Lancelot Patrick Ross, and he was both a champion track athlete and a talented glee club singer at Yale University. He was studying law at Yale, and was slated to run at the Olympics, but he withdrew from the 1928 Olympics so that he could sing full time, and he never did practice law, and instead, he became a major radio singer in 1928, and in 1931, he started singing on the Maxwell House Show Boat radio program, and by 1934, he was voted the second best singer of popular songs in the entire U.S. (second only to Bing Crosby!). Naturally, that led him to movies, and this movie was his first, with a plot that only served to allow him to sing many songs. But while he made a few more movies, his first love was radio, and he stuck with that. He enlisted in the Army in World War II, becoming a major. He passed away in 1988 at the age of 82.

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this jumbo window card!

Note that this is one of 7 jumbo window cards we are currently auctioning (in separate auctions). They come from a very longtime collector who consigned 13 of them to us. The first 6 were auctioned in our March 2019 Major Auction, and the remaining 7 are being auctioned here. We have no other jumbo window cards, and given how incredibly rare they are, it might be quite a while before we auction more of them! Note that jumbo window cards are on a heavy paper stock like regular window cards of this era, and they absolutely cannot be rolled and must be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30".

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S.

Condition: good.
