A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 49 3/4" x 77 1/4" [126 x 196 cm]) (Learn More) Izarra is a sweet liqueur made in Bayonne in the French Basque Country. Joseph Grattau, a botanist, bought the recipe in the late 19th century for a traditional Basque liqueur dating back at least to 1835. He renamed it Izarra (Basque for "the star") and began selling it from 1904 onwards. There are three varieties: Yellow Izarra (made with 13 herbs with a predominantly almond taste and is 80 proof), Green Izarra (made with 16 herbs and has a peppermint taste and is also 80 proof) and Izarra 54 (launched in 2012 and uses a recipe similar to the traditional Green Izarra from 1910 and is stronger at 108 proof). Izarra is drunk on its own, on ice or in cocktails, frequently with gin. Artist: Zulla Important Added Info: Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had minor fold and border wear and some scuffs in the solid colored areas. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. At some point after it was backed, something came in contact with the top center and caused an L-shaped tear in the horse's neck, and creases below that area. The actual poster has completely separated from the backing in that area along the tear. Any restorer could re-glue that area and perform slight touch up to it without re-backing the poster, or one could certainly choose to have greater restoration performed. Please bear in mind this unusual defect before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
