A Vintage German Hardcover Book (measures 7 3/4" x 11" [20 x 28 cm]; 256 pages) (Learn More) Film Photos Wie Noch Nie (literally translates to "Film Photos Like Never Before"), the 1929 German illustrated book featuring 1,200 images and information about silent films and stars such as Dr. Caligari, Joan of Arc, The Kid, Asta Nielsen, Lillian Gish, Emil Jannings, Charlie Chaplin and more. This is a really sensational book! The person who created this book REALLY loved movies and was super knowledgeable about them, because there are lots of images from the greatest movies and the best stars of that time (1929), and there are stars you would not expect to get a decent coverage, like Louise Brooks! In addition, many of the photos are arranged on two-page spreads like they were frames of film and there are loads of really interesting photos we have not seen before. The first 62 pages of the book have text, and while we can't read it because it is in German, it has artwork images of top stars scattered throughout the pages. We photographed a number of pages to give a sense of how it looks, but it really is one of the best such movie books we have ever seen. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: good. The book may have had a dust jacket and it is possible that someone cut the front of the dust jacket and glued it to the front of the hardcover binding. There are some brown stains on the first and last interior blank pages and some slight brown staining around the edges of some pages.
