Date Sold 5/5/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (likely 1968) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures approximately 30" x 40") (Learn More) West Side Story, the classic 1961 Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins (winners of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) New York City romantic dance musical ("The screen achieves one of the great entertainments in the history of motion pictures"; "'Best Picture' Winner of 10 Academy Awards 1961"; "Based upon the stage play produced by Robert E. Griffith and Harold S. Prince" winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; with a sentimental script by Ernest Lehman, which borrows heavily from "Romeo & Juliet"; based on a book by Arthur Laurents) starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), and George Chakiris (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). The wonderful music was by Leonard Bernstein and the equally wonderful lyrics were by Stephen Sondheim. Note that Natalie Wood's singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon (who had also dubbed The King and I and The Sound of Music), and Richard Beymer's singing was dubbed as well. Recordings exist of some of Natalie Wood's singing, and she absolutely would have been fine, but Hollywood demands perfection! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this British quad was folded vertically three times and horizontally three times (this being folded one time more than is sometimes done, but it is quite common with British quads, especially older ones). Because of this, this quad can be sent in one of our standard size flat packages (but if it is purchased together with quads that have not been folded in the same way, then it will of course have to be sent in one of our tubes if the other quads are unfolded, or, if it is purchased with other quads that are only folded once horizontally than it can either be sent in an oversized flat package, OR in a tube). But if this quad is purchased by itself (or solely with other quads that have been folded the same way), then the shipping can be lower, because it then fits in a standard package. But please realize that because this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time it is likely that the creases have diminished and therefore re-folding the poster will likely bring some of those creases back, but we leave that decision as to whether or not to re-fold the poster up to the individual buyer of this item. UNLESS THE BUYER TELLS US OTHERWISE, THIS QUAD WILL BE SENT ROLLED IN A TUBE. Condition: good to very good. There is a tape stain in each corner, but otherwise, the poster is in pretty good condition! Learn More about condition grades
