He is best remembered for playing Renfield in the 1931 Spanish version of Dracula, which was filmed simultaneously with the U.S. version. He passed away in 1983 at the age of 82. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Pablo Alvarez Rubio! This is an original still from the 1931 Spanish version of Dracula, and original stills (or movie paper of any kind) from this movie are beyond rare, and this still is signed by the actor with a long inscription! Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7" x 9 3/4" [18 x 25 cm]. Our consignor purchased this wonderful still from a reputable Spanish dealer, and both he (and we) feel the inscription and autograph are surely authentic, and this is confirmed by the fact that it is shown in the 1932 Spanish magazine included with this auction.
UPDATED 01/22/2020: Note that the winner of this auction will also receive the June 11th, 1932 edition of the Spanish magazine Films Selectos. The magazine (which is 8 3/4" x 11 1/2", has 26 of the original 28 pages and comes with two supplements) features an image of the above autographed photo of Pablo Alvarez Rubio on page 17. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good to very good. The blank borders were slightly trimmed. There are two brown stains in the top left and top right background areas. There are markings in the bottom border from when this was reproduced in a newspaper or magazine, and a faint scuff line down the right edge of the background area (no doubt also from when it was reproduced).
