Date Sold 4/2/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Ernst Lubitsch's Comedy To Be or Not to Be, the 1942 Ernst Lubitsch World War II (WWII) military romantic love triangle anti-Nazi screwball comedy ("We announce the presentation of Carole Lombard's last picture. An exciting romantic comedy keyed to an ever-mounting tempo of suspense. Jack Benny at his best in a surprisingly different comic role. Here is a Lubitsch picture-brilliant in its acting-spectacular in its scope."; "original story by Ernst Lubitsch and Melchior Lengyel"; produced by Alexander Korda) starring Carole Lombard (in her final movie role; she tragically died in a plane crash after filming), Jack Benny, Robert Stack, Felix Bressart, Lionel Atwill, Stanley Ridges, Charles Halton, and Sig Ruman. As noted above, Lombard tragically passed away after the movie finished filming, but before it was released. United Artists decided to capitalize on this by promoting it as "Carole Lombard's last picture"! Also note that this movie was remade by Mel Brooks in 1983! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: good. The card has slightly darkened and there is a diagonal scuff in the man's arm, with touch up in the center of that scuff. There are pinholes, creases, and stains around the edges. There are tape repairs on the back of the corners. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Learn More about condition grades
