An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm] English Movie Still (Learn More)

White Cargo, the 1929 (released in the U.S. in 1930) J.B. Williams English rubber plantation romantic interracial romantic melodrama (based on the play by Leon Gordon and the novel by Ida Vera Simonton) starring Leslie Faber, John F. Hamilton, Maurice Evans, Sebastian Smith, Humberston Wright, Henri De Vries, and Gypsy Rhouma (as Tondelayo). While this movie is completely forgotten, except by major film buffs, it is a fascinating piece of film history! Gypsy Rhouma played Tondelayo, the half-breed native in the play this movie was based on. She was supposed to be a real life gypsy, but she may well have been a light-skinned black woman from Arkansas! She performed in vaudeville and in a few plays. She was hired to recreate her role from this play in this movie, but she only made one other movie. Also note that this movie was remade in 1942 with Hedy Lamarr as Tondelayo, the African native woman!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" still for this English movie! Also note that this English still measures 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm].
