An Undated (probably 1920s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) We're In the Navy Now, the 1926 A. Edward Sutherland silent Naval military sailor comedy ("Original story by Monty Brice") starring Wallace Beery, Raymond Hatton, Chester Conklin, Tom Kennedy, and Donald Keith. Note that Tom Kennedy was NOT the older brother of comic actor Edgar Kennedy, as is often mistakenly noted (and we are guilty of having passed on that falsehood innocently!). Tom was a former amateur boxing champion, who turned to acting in the middle 1910s, primarily playing large oafish characters. He often acted with Edgar Kennedy (which is likely why they were mistakenly identified as brothers), and he appeared in a series of 11 Columbia two-reel comedies alongside Monty Collins in the middle 1930s, and he had a major role in the "Torchy Blaine" detective movies. He stayed active in movies all the way through the 1960s! Also note that in 1926, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton appeared in "Behind the Front", and the public loved the comic antics of this very large man with this very small man, and they went on to make a series of similar movies, including this one. They were so popular that there was also an imitation series of similar movies starring Karl Dane and George K. Arthur. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving complete copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a two-color lobby card for this movie. There were full-color cards that are surely from the first release. We believe that this is an early re-release, from the late 1920s or early 1930s. We have seen other Paramount cards like this and in some of those, one of the stars' billing increased to reflect their greater fame, which guarantees they are re-releases. In this case, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton were the stars of the movie in 1928, so their top billing on this card does not prove anything, but since all the other cards like this have been re-releases, we think it is a certainty that this one is as well. Condition: very good to fine. Note that this lobby card is in excellent condition and is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card!
