If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Belgian poster! We know that this movie was released in France in 1937, which makes us think it is very likely it was also released in Belgium that year. Since this poster was printed during World War II or soon after, that would make it a re-release. If anyone knows for sure whether this is first release or a re-release, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that in Belgium at the time this movie was released, there was a huge paper shortage during World War II, and so they printed many of the movie posters at the time on the back of already printed posters (a practice pretty common in Belgium and France during World War II, when there were huge paper shortages). The poster offered here was printed on the back of part of a newspaper page, and it shows through in some parts of the poster (mostly as a sort of light "ghosting"). See our image to better see exactly what bleed-through there is. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was printed on the back of a comic strip (see above). There is some bleed-through from the printing on the back, but it is almost completely in the blank white borders and slightly in the yellow background, and is not very distracting. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
