An Unfolded French Advertising Poster (measures 20 1/2" x 34 1/2" [52 x 88 cm]) (Learn More) Gritzner was a German company which was founded in 1872 by Max Carl Gritzner. The company produced sewing machines, bicycles and motorcycles. In 1879, Gritzner invented the glasses-free, double-rotating gripper (this is still used in a slightly modified form by almost all sewing machine factories in the world). The millionth sewing machine was produced in 1902 and the two millionth in 1910. Eventually, Gritzner developed into the largest sewing machine factory in Europe. The company was taken over by Pfaff in 1957. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have seen two versions of this poster with the Gritzner brand name at the top, but this poster only shows the name of the store that was selling sewing machines in Voiron, France. Perhaps it was sold under a different name or this artwork could be used to sell any brand. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. The poster has creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges. One slightly larger tear extends into the woman's arm at left and another slightly enters the background at center right. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition and after linenbacking with some restoration the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
