Hogan romantic detective crime mystery adventure thriller (based on the novel 'Bulldog Drummond and the Oriental Mind' by Herman C. McNeile) starring John Howard (in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Heather Angel (in the title role as the bride), H.B. Warner, Reginald Denny, E.E. Clive, Elizabeth Patterson, and Eduardo Ciannelli. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. Most of the cards have pinholes around the edges and/or light scuff marks and smudges, typical of vintage lobby cards that were likely displayed at a theater. The one with the soldier at center has some slight discoloration scattered in some areas from exposure to moisture and an Australian ratings stamp at lower right (see our image). The card with Angel at right in the light blue dress has pinholes along portions of the edges and some tears at upper right, and those areas have been restored pretty nicely so that the card will display well. The cards have no other restoration and are in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
