An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The River, the 1929 Frank Borzage romantic love triangle melodrama ("From the novel by Tristram Tupper"; about an innocent young man traveling down a river who meets a beautiful woman who was the mistress of a murderer who is in jail; they fall in love, but he wants to stay carefree and she is happy with that, because she is waiting for her old boyfriend to be released from jail, but then the man escapes from jail and plans change!) starring Charles Farrell, Mary Duncan, Ivan Linow, Margaret Mann, Alfred Sabato, and Bert Woodruff. Note that this film premiered in December 1928, but didn't get a general release in the U.S. until October 1929.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning, and we have only auctioned one German program and no other movie paper for this film! Also note that the poster has very thin top and bottom borders, but it measures 14" x 36" and is not trimmed. It is something that William Fox experimented with at this time. Note also that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 insert posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 insert posters (note that most post-1970 inserts were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those inserts).

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It has a 1/2" tear in the center of the top border that once had tape on the back. Otherwise it is in surprisingly nice condition, especially considering it is 91 years old!
