He led several different bands over the years, each of which was called "The Herd". His bands often played music that was cutting edge and experimental, and their recordings received numerous Grammy nominations. Some of his movies include: Hit Parade of 1947, What's Cookin'? and Earl Carroll Vanities. He had a business manager who mismanaged his money in the 1960s, and he owed the IRS millions, and he kept performing well into the 1980s, because he was in danger of eviction from his home. He passed away in 1987 at the age of 74. Important Added Info: Note that this publicity still has been personally autographed (signed) by Woody Herman! Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer, but he does not have a "certificate of authenticity". Included with the signed publicity still is an unsigned 45 record in its original sleeve. Condition: very good to fine. The publicity still is in excellent condition. The record is in its original sleeve, which has slight surface paper loss on the back, but is otherwise in really nice condition (the record itself appears to be in good condition, but we have no way to play it).
