Some of her movies include: A Farewell to Arms, Herbie Rides Again, and Arrowsmith. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Airport in 1970, which was 39 years after she won her Best Actress Oscar in 1931 for The Sin of Madelon Claudet. She was married to legendary screenwriter Charles MacArthur, and the mother of actor James MacArthur (and the mother of actress Mary MacArthur, who passed away at just 19, from polio). She passed away in 1993 at the age of 92. Important Added Info: Note that this first day cover has been personally autographed (signed) by Helen Hayes! This is one of eleven similar first day covers, all for the 50th anniversary of talking pictures, but each of the eleven were signed by different celebrities. Obviously, a man named Lester Liddle attended an event that all of these twelve celebrities were at, and they asked each one of them to sign an envelope! We are auctioning them in eleven separate auctions. Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signatures to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
