#159 WINGS IN THE DARK ad approach '34 Grant

Date Sold 8/6/2002
Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price.

Original Vintage Theatrical Advertising Approach (measures approximately 8 1/2" x 13"; 26 pages, 8 are ad art) (Learn More)

Wings in the Dark, the 1934 James Flood stunt airplane aviation romantic melodrama ("Death if she loses... $50,000 and love if she wins!"; a wild story of an aeronautical engineer who wants to create an automated pilot that will let pilots fly even under the most adverse weather conditions; he meets a famous female aviatrix, and they start a romance; he is blinded in an industrial accident, but he keeps on with his research, but because no one will fund a blind engineer, his girlfriend secretly raises money for him, including on a dangerous Moscow to New York non-stop flight!) starring Myrna Loy, Cary Grant, Roscoe Karns, Dean Jagger, Russell Hopton, and Lightning (the German Shepherd dog!). Note that Myrna Loy's character was based on Amelia Earhart, who would tragically disappear on a solo flight three years later. Also note that this was Cary Grant's first pairing with Myrna Loy. They would not appear together again in the 1930s, but in the 1940s, they made two very memorable movies, "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" and "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer", and one wishes they had made many more movies together!

Important Added Info: This week on eBay eMoviePoster is selling a collection of 38 "ad approaches" similar to the one offered here as 38 separate items. In all my years of collecting, I have never seen these "ad approaches". If you collect on this movie, know that you may never see this item again!

Condition: very good. There probably was a blank back cover that was removed at some time (I only know this by comparing this ad approach to the others we are offering). There is a tiny hole in the top right of the front cover.
