An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Man From Music Mountain, the 1938 Joseph Kane (billed as "Joe Kane") singing cowboy western musical starring Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, Carol Hughes, Polly Jenkins and her Plowboys, and Champion (Gene's horse). Note that Polly Jenkins was born Mary Zoller, and she was musically talented as a child, but it wasn't until her late 20s that she became the head of a novelty act that appeared in vaudeville up and down the east coast (sometimes using a different name for their act), playing "hillbilly" music on a bunch of novelty instruments including "the hay rake, the musical hat rack, the musical wheelbarrow, musical coins, cowbells, sleigh bells, sheep bells, and musical funnels". In 1938, Gene Autry saw their act and flew them out to Hollywood to be in this movie, and while he felt they were a welcome addition to the movie, and while they enjoyed the experience, it was the only movie they appeared in. They returned to the east coast and performed in vaudeville for the next decade. In 1949, one of the key members of the Plowboys, Uncle Dan, passed away, and that, combined with vaudeville dying, was the end of this long running novelty act. Mary Zoller passed away in 1983 at the age of 80. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
