An Original 1956 Vintage Unfolded Two-Sided English Special Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

the 1956 English double-bill release of Guys and Dolls, the 1955 Joseph L. Mankiewicz New York City romantic gambling Broadway dance musical ("It's a living breathing doll of a musical!"; "Samuel Goldwyn presents America's Own Musical!"; based on the play by Abe Burrows & Jo Swerling; about a professional gambler who bets an operator of an illegal craps game that he can take a beautiful Salvation Army worker to Cuba with him for dinner!) starring Marlon Brando (as Sky Masterson), Jean Simmons (as Sister Sarah Brown), Frank Sinatra (as Nathan Detroit), Vivian Blaine (as Miss Adelaide), Robert Keith (as Lt. Brannigan), Stubby Kaye (as Nicely-Nicely Johnson), B.S. Pully (as Big Jule), Johnny Silver (as Benny Southstreet), Sheldon Leonard (as Harry the Horse), The Goldwyn Girls, and Larri Thomas (as the sexy Cuban dancer who flirts with Brando in Cuba, and gets in a fight with Simmons!). Note that Sam Levene was the original Nathan Detroit in the first stage version of "Guys and Dolls", but he was replaced for the movie by Frank Sinatra, because producer Sam Goldwyn did not consider Levene a big enough name, and Goldwyn also refused to let Sinatra play Sky Masterson, who would have been wonderful, and instead Goldwyn cast Marlon Brando (which led to much friction between Brando and Sinatra)! AND High Society, the 1956 Charles Waters romantic musical comedy ("A hilarious low-down on high life!"; "They're all together for the first time!"; "Music & Lyrics by Cole Porter"; "A new high in the movie sky. M-G-M presents in VistaVision and color"; "The hilarious low-down on high life!"; "Based on a play by Philip Barry"; a musical re-make of "The Philadelphia Story") starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm, John Lund, Louis Calhern, Sidney Blackmer, Louis Armstrong (billed as "Louis Armstrong and His Band"), and Lydia Reed. Note that this was Grace Kelly's last film before retiring to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. She wore her real-life engagement ring (featuring a 10.5 carat emerald cut diamond!) for her character's engagement.

Important Added Info: Note that this is a MOST unusual poster! Apparently a theater in England was just showing Guys and Dolls in 1955, and created their won homemade silkscreen poster for it, and then the next year they made a separate homemade silkscreen poster on the back for High Society when they showed that movie (of course they might have shown them both within weeks of each other, which would account for why they used the back of the first poster to make the second)! Both posters are well made, and a surely one of a kind, but of course the new owner of this poster can only display one of them, because the other is on the back (see our images). Note that our system is designed so that when two movies are advertised on the same poster it calls it a "double-bill", so that is what the above description says, but we think these two posters were surely used at different times and that it is NOT from a "double-bill" showing.

Condition: fair to good. There are light stains in the center of both sides of the poster and wear around the edges (see our images). Of course restoration could be performed, but bear these defects in mind before bidding.
