An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 9" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Menschen, Tiere, Sensationen (literally translates to "People, Pets, Sensations"), the 1938 Harry Piel German circus melodrama starring Harry Piel, Ruth Eweler, Elisabeth Wendt, Edith Oss, and Josef Karma. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that star/director Harry Piel was a major figure in early cinema. He wrote and directed his first movie when he was just 20 years old in 1912, and he made several movies over the next three years, and then began acting in them as well! He made many movies over the next decades. In 1933, he joined the Nazi party and made movies for them. In 1934, he made Der Herr der Welt, a science fiction movie with robots, but he had actually used robots in a movie he made in 1915! At the end of World War II, he was sentenced to 6 months in jail and banned from the film industry for 5 years. In 1950, he started a new film company, but did not have much success, and he retired in 1953 and passed away in 1961. Unfortunately, almost all the negatives of his silent films were destroyed when Germany was bombed during World War II, so few of his films survive, and that, combined with his Nazi collaboration, has caused him to be largely forgotten, except by major film buffs. Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Note that on January 6th of this year we auctioned a mostly single owner collection of 551 German and Austrian programs, that included many rare and wonderful titles, but now we have been consigned (from a new consignor) 128 German and Austrian programs which include some programs that are duplicates of ones we auctioned on January 6th, but which also includes a large number of programs which we have never auctioned before, including many rare and wonderful titles (especially super-rare pre-World War II titles from both countries, and some scarce titles from during World War II and from immediately after)! If you have the slightest interest in these, be sure to look over all of the 128 programs we are currently offering. We promise you won't be disappointed! Condition: very good. The program was folded across the middle. Learn More about condition grades
