An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 20" x 28 1/4" [51 x 72 cm]) (Learn More)

Jack Hoxie Big 3 Ring Circus, the circa 1930s circus poster featuring art of several acrobats. (Note that Jack Hoxie is best remembered as a star of silent westerns, but he was born and raised in Oklahoma, and he was a real life cowboy. He was a rodeo star before he entered movies, and first worked in a Wild West show in 1914. After that, he started making movies, becoming a star in the early 1920s. The coming of sound was the end of his starring movie career, because he could barely read, although he continued in small parts). In the 1930s, he started appearing in his own western style circus. At the end of the 1930s, when he was around 45, he retired to his ranch in Oklahoma, and he lived out his days out of the public limelight, passing away in 1965 at the age of 80. If anyone knows more about this poster, or exactly when it is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded around one-third from the bottom, and it had very minor wear on that fold. It had some darkening and tiny stains around the edges. It had a 1" tear in the upper right background area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
