Date Sold 6/17/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 3 Original Vintage 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Stills (Learn More) No Time For Sergeants, the 1958 Mervyn LeRoy U.S. Air Force military slapstick comedy ("The funniest play and the happiest best-seller is even funnier on the screen!"; "The Wonderful guys who won a medal for strictly nothing --and win a Laugh for strictly everything they do! From the same studio and director that gave you 'Mister Roberts' - AND EVEN FUNNIER!"; "The picture that's winning every medal for mirth!"; "Screenplay by John Lee Mahn"; about a country bumpkin who joins the military, and outsmarts all the "city folk"; years later, the basic plot would be borrowed for "Gomer Pyle", which was a spin-off from "The Andy Griffith Show") starring Andy Griffith ("starring in the stage role that rocketed him to fame!"), Myron McCormick, Nick Adams, Murray Hamilton, Howard Smith, Jean Wiles, and Don Knotts (he appears in a very minor role at the beginning of the movie, and he also played that part in the stage play version, and no doubt Andy Griffith remembered how funny Knotts was a few years later when he was about to star in "The Andy Griffith Show", which likely contributed to how Knotts became Barney Fife!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these stills appear in every way to be original U.S. release EXCEPT that there is one very tiny line of French type in the lower right of each still. It reads, "IMPRIME AUX ETATS-UNIS D'AMERIQUE". A collector has told us that he believes this means the stills were printed for use in areas that included French-speaking parts of Canada, but that they WERE printed in the U.S., and that makes complete sense to us (and we have seen this on stills from the 1940s through the early 2000s, so it has certainly been done for an extremely long time)! So they are original stills from 1958, but they were printed partially for use in French-speaking Canada. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
