An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Mollycoddle, the 1920 Victor Fleming silent Hopi Native American Indian romantic adventure comedy ("Story by Harold MacGrath"; about an American raised in Monte Carlo, who is a polo player, who always wears evening clothes, and he goes to visit his birthplace in Arizona on Indian land, and he has many adventures) starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Wallace Beery, Morris Hughes, George Stewart, and Ruth Renick. Note that this was one of the first United Artists movies, but none of the movie paper for it we have seen has any studio information, and we have seen two entirely different types of lobby cards, so one might be an early re-release, but it seems impossible to tell which is which! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that we put most of the linenbacked items in this June Major Auction in Part I and Part III, but we did not put this item in those parts, because it will be sent in a flat package, as many of the items in Part II will. It CAN'T be rolled or combined with roll-able items. Also note that this lobby card had been slightly trimmed and measured 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]. The owner chose to have it linenbacked, and the restorer did not replace the tiny part of the missing blank border and they did left 1" of excess linen on all four sides of the card (see our image).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. It appears that the owner of the card had it linenbacked for preservation and not for restoration purposes. The person who backed it simply mounted it on the linen (with an excess 1" on all four sides), and did not do restoration to the blank borders or to the faint creases and scuffs within the image (see our image).
