An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Handbill (measures 10 1/2" x 28" [27 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Walter L. Main Shows/Circus was founded by Walter L. Main in 1886. The circus grew rapidly and in 1891, Walter purchased 11 railroad cars and put his circus on rails and the show was a huge success. On May 30th of 1893, the circus train was descending a steep grade when the engineer lost control and the train crashed at high speed at the bottom of the mountain. Four people were killed instantly and another two died later of their injuries. The circus lost many valuable animals and most of the show's equipment was destroyed. After the devastating train wreck, the show was rebuilt and returned to the road but it eventually closed in 1904. However, Main cleverly leased the name of the circus to other shows well into the 1930s. Condition: good to very good. There are creases throughout the handbill and there is some separation and tattering along some of the foldlines and edges. Learn More about condition grades
