An Unfolded Travel Poster (measures 16" x 23" [41 x 58 cm]) (Learn More)

Southern Pacific: Great Salt Lake, the railroad train railway travel poster ("By rail across Great Salt Lake overland route") encouraging people to visit The Great Salt Lake in Utah, and featuring great art by Maurice Logan of birds flying over trains crossing the Great Salt Lake. Note that the Southern Pacific Railroad printed posters like these from the late 1920s to the mid 1930s, and there would be more than one printing of each poster during that time. Some had dates in the bottom left corner and some did not, and this one is one of the dated ones, and it has "3-15-33" in the bottom left corner, which means it is surely from 1933. Also note that Maurice Logan was a California illustrator who lived from 1886 to 1977. He rose to prominence as an artist in the middle 1910s, and by the middle 1920s, he was one of San Francisco's best known commercial illustrators and poster designers. In the 1930s began exhibiting transparent watercolor paintings. For many years, he was an art instructor at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and he is one of the most important California illustrators of the 20th century!
Artist: Maurice Logan

Condition: good. The poster was roughly handled while it was rolled, and it has several horizontal creases and partial horizontal creases scattered through the image (see our image). In spite of these defects, the poster displays pretty well as it is, or certainly, one could choose to have expert restoration performed.
