A Folded Brazilian Special Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 20" [36 x 51 cm]) (Learn More)

2 Encontro da Juventude Trabalhadora do Distrito do Porto (literally translates to "2 Meetings of the Working Youth of the Port District"), the 1979 Brazilian poster announcing two union meetings for young port workers to take place at Porto, Portugal. Note that this was likely also connected to the 5 year anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. The Carnation Revolution was initially a military coup in Lisbon, Portugal, on April 25th, 1974 which overthrew the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo. The revolution started as a military coup organized by the Armed Forces Movement composed of military officers who opposed the regime, but the movement was soon coupled with an unanticipated and popular campaign of civil resistance. This movement would lead to the fall of the Estado Novo and the withdrawal of Portugal from its African colonies.
