A Set of 2 Original Vintage Movie Scripts (each measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], one has 244 pages and one has 253 pages) (Learn More)

Tess of the D'Urbervilles, the 1947 movie script written by Allan Scott (based on the novel by Thomas Hardy). Allan Scott first wrote a script for this in July of 1946, and the Selznick studio was intending to produce it (previously, there had only been two silent versions in 1913 and 1924, and both are now lost). At some point, Scott wrote a new version of the script and later an entirely different script was written by Clemence Dane, but after that, the project was canceled. There would not be another movie based on this novel until Roman Polanski's version in 1979!
Important Added Info: Note that this is a set of two drafts of a script for David Selznick's proposed 1947 film adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" (see above). One is a script by Allan Scott from December 1, 1947 from Vanguard Films (which is a "Re-run" of the July 12, 1946 script), with 244 pages, and it has a perforated sheet on the first page and the perforated section has not been removed. It notes in that perforated area that it is "incomplete - parts I and II", even though the cover says "COMPLETE SCRIPT". The other script is an undated revised screenplay also by Allan Scott from the Selznick studio and it has 253 pages and contains the complete proposed film. These scripts were obtained from the Selznick archive.

Condition: very good. The script with the blue cover is incomplete (as noted on the title page of that script). The other script has some small tears around the edges (see our images).
