Date Sold 4/14/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) The Bar Sinister (also known as "The Golden Woman"), the 1917 Edgar Lewis silent black African American racism kidnapping revenge melodrama ("I am a Negress"; based on a story "by Anthony P. Kelly"; one of those wild "they don't make 'em like this anymore" movies from long ago!; the plot concerns a black woman whose husband was killed by his cruel white employer, and in revenge she kidnaps the white man's daughter and raises her as her own daughter, telling her she is half black; when the girl grows up, she falls in love with a man who hates blacks, and she hides from him that she is half black, and he finds out and is furious, but finally, her "mother" confesses to her that she is actually not black at all, at which point her boyfriend forgives her!) starring Preston Rollow, Mary Doyle, William Anderson, Florence St. Leonard, and Hedda Nova If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned a different example of this window card, which was in similar condition to this card (but that example DID have the top tagline, which is missing from this example) and it auctioned for $423! Note also that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: fair. The card was trimmed on the left top, and right borders. There was a tagline at the top that read "I am a Negress" that is no longer present. There is a tear in the bottom left corner that separates that piece from the rest of the card and a 3" tear near it and someone put tape on the back of both of those. There are some tears, stains and tiny paper loss around the edges of the card (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
