Tod Browning was a director, best remembered as the director of "Dracula" and "Freaks", Browning came from a good family but fell in love with a circus dancer as a teenager, and he worked in the circus in order to be with her, and later he met D.W. Griffith, which led to acting jobs, and he became a director, having his first success with the silent version of "The Unholy Three", and he remained in the horror genre; he retired in 1939, but lived until 1962; no doubt, someone will eventually make a movie about his life, likely with Johnny Depp in the lead role! AND Priscilla Dean was an actress starting at age 14, and became one of Universal's very top stars in the late 1910s, receiving top billing over Lon Chaney Sr. in several movies. By the late 1920s, her star was fading and she was released by Universal. The coming of sound finished off her career, and she only appeared in a few movies after 1928, but she lived to age 91, passing away in 1987 AND Rollin Sturgeon was a writer and director from the 1910s to the 1920s. Some of his works include: Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Angel of the Desert, God's Country and the Woman, and North of the Rio Grande
Important Added Info: Note that this is a fascinating still and we wish we knew more about it! It shows Priscilla Dean (who was one of Universal's very top stars in the late 1910s) standing between director Tod Browning and director Rollin Sturgeon. We know that Dean starred in a movie called "Pretty Smooth" for Sturgeon in 1919, and then made two movies that neither director were connected with, and then made two movies that Browning directed, "The Virgin of Stamboul" and "Outside the Law". So we would think that this still surely dates from either 1919 or 1920, and since Sturgeon is not looking pleased, we would think it might be because Dean had switched from him to Browning, which would make it 1920! Stills that show Tod Browning are incredibly rare, and this one has a great close image of him. Note that this still measures 7 1/4" x 9 3/4" [18 x 25 cm], but it has not been trimmed.

Condition: very good.
