Date Sold 3/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Italian Photobusta Movie Poster (13x18 pbusta; measures 13 1/2" x 19" [34 x 48 cm]) (Learn More) The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an ultra-rare Italian photobusta for this movie! We have never auctioned this poster before, and we have only auctioned two other photobustas for this movie (and they had the same image as each other, but they both had a completely different image than this poster) and we have auctioned no other first release Italian movie paper for this film in all of our years of auctioning.
UPDATED 02/21/2020: Note that there was a error in the date. We originally mentioned 1949 but this photobusta is from the first Italian release in 1947 (it was printed in 1946 as indicated by the printer information). Some sources say that 1949 was the first Italian release date, but as this poster was printed in late 1946 and the film was approved by Italian censors in 1947, the 1949 date would seem to be incorrect. Condition: good to very good. The poster has pinholes and faint or tiny creases around the edges (some of the pinholes are slightly enlarged in the corners - see our image). There is a small tear at lower center (that only affects blank paper) and there are some faint scuffs at lower left in the border art. Otherwise this ultra-rare Italian poster is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
